You are
invited to participate in the
2007 -
2008 Somers
Youth Wrestling Program.
This program is
open to any 1st—6th grade student.
No
Experience Necessary.
You will be paired with other wrestlers of equal weight and experience.

Somers Middle School Cafeteria @ 6:00pm *****
This
exciting program was developed to provide young athletes with the
opportunity to learn better wrestling skills from the some of the best
instructors in the sport today. The goal of the
Somers
Youth Wrestling Program
is to help the wrestlers improve, no matter what their ability level,
through great coaching and healthy competition.
The focus of the program is on physical
fitness, learning proper wrestling techniques and good sportsmanship.
Younger wrestlers will learn the fundamentals of the sport, while older
wrestlers experience more advanced skill work.

For This Year -
In order
to provide better instruction, the practice sessions will be will be
separated into two groups. The
Bantam
Group is any
wrestler with less than 1 year experience. The tentative practice schedule
for this group is Monday and Thursday from 5:30pm to 7:00pm in the
Middle
School cafeteria.
The
Novice Group
is any wrestler with more than 1 year experience. The
tentative practice schedule for this group is Monday, Thursday and Friday from
7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Middle School cafeteria.
Also, we will
be participating in the “NEW” Northern Westchester / Putnam Youth
Wrestling League. As part of this League, we will have several (approx.
6-10) matches against other local area wrestling programs. These events
will last approximately two hours. Every wrestler will have the
opportunity to wrestle several times. This format will help build the
experience necessary to compete in the local tournaments (such as the
Brewster, Ossining or Carmel Wrestling Tournaments).
As a member of
the team, each wrestler will receive protective headgear, a team
T-shirt, shorts, wrestling uniform and USA Wrestling Card.
